William “Bill” Spahn – Austin Daily Herald

William Henry Spahn (Invoice) was born June 8, 1942 to Harry and Elsa (Peterson) Spahn in Austin, Minnesota. Austin is the home of Hormel and Spam and like most persons from there, he liked Spam. He graduated from Austin Superior School in 1960 exactly where he was class president for 3 decades and lettered in swimming, football and monitor for 4 several years. He was so honored when he was inducted into the Austin Large Faculty Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016. Monthly bill attended Texas Tech University on a swimming scholarship and was two-time captain of the Red Raider’s swim crew. He graduated from Texas Tech in 1964 with a degree in Actual physical Education and learning.
Immediately after graduation, Invoice moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico for a training job and all through his initial yr there began the Heights YMCA Swim Club. Throughout his eight several years in Albuquerque, the HYAC have been state champions for seven yrs. In 1972 Monthly bill made a decision to coach swimming full time and moved to Wichita, Kansas to coach the Wichita Swim Club. In the course of his six yrs in Wichita, the team was state champions, Area 8 championships, and had 5 junior national winner swimmers.
In 1977 in buy to invest much more time with his spouse and children, he moved to collegiate coaching and became the head men’s mentor for the University of Kansas swimming method. He was there only 4 years but led the Jayhawk’s to two Huge 8 Meeting Championships in 1978 and 1979. Invoice often loved the southwest and when he was available the head men’s and women’s coaching job at the College of New Mexico he jumped at the probability. Monthly bill was also a volunteer coach along with his son Joe at College of Notre Dame in 2014-2015 and an assistant coach for the Fossil Ridge girl’s swim crew for 2018-19 time.
While Bill experienced a successful coaching profession which includes coaching two Olympic swimmers, his associations with his loved ones, buddies and swimmers gave him this kind of pleasure. He touched so many youthful people and he appreciated listening to about their life and family members the moment they concluded their swimming a long time.
Monthly bill cherished his household dearly and is missed by his spouse of 40 decades, Leslie, and three sons Brent in Arvada, CO Bob and his wife Felicia in San Diego, CA and Joe and his wife Mary Kate in San Diego, CA. Also surviving him is his granddaughter, Reagan Nohea, and his phase-grandchildren, Sarah, Marshall, and Erin.
A Celebration of Daily life open residence will be held on June 4, 2022 from 2:00-5:00 pm on the New Belgium Porch at Canvas Stadium on the campus of Colorado Point out College.
